Feedback

Regarding the centre pages, very much prefer the black one. I think its been in brief discussion amongst a few that these pages should be put at the beginning following the contents as it works as a nice intro to the pieces of work.

That aside, I wanted to post up some of the feedback I collected on the 4/03/09 or possibly the 5th, it’s good to get an overview of how people feel this project went, for those who I didn’t see on this date, my apologies. Please do add your comments.

Liz:
- We all came together as a group with our ideas e.g structure of the book, cover etc.
- It was exciting to see the final images and looking forward to seeing the finished print.
- It helped working with others to complete deadlines, it relieved any unnecessary pressure and made it much more enjoyable.
- Big thanks to Joy and Rich for their help

Kyle:
- I enjoyed working within the group

Bess:
- I enjoyed designing the Index, working together with others to continue the theme
- Felt when the blog was used it was useful but found not everybody took advantage it
- Our individual designs for our double pages seem to fit as well as contrast well, with regards to style/colour etc.

Deb:
- The majority worked productively but some members missed meetings meaning they missed contributing to important decisions
- Like the design and it helped seeing the printed double pages, was a reward and meant we could easily see our goal being completed, exceeding my personal expectation/standard.

Rob:
- Due to time spent working on my own double pages I felt I wasn't able to contribute as much to the group as I would've liked.
- If I was to do this again I would participate more, keeping up-to-date with group development/progress and decision making
- Liked the Victorian/old style theme and cover idea by Jo

Joy:
- As a group we jumped into the action very quickly, very proactive
- We were democratic with lots of ideas being put forward
- We also have a good dynamic meaning people with strong creative views were respectful of group decisions

Rich:
- To much time was spent at the beginning on finishing the details e.g. book cover, pages numbers etc. but was resolved after a meeting discussion - see meeting notes
- Some people didn't respect deadlines set making it hard to complete work as Editor.
- Difficult with some that chose to re-design without willing to compromise work to fit time scale
- Not all were aware of the serious implications of not setting personal time plans/targets
- Majority of group provided work required, meaning we were able to complete overall deadlines that were in place

Myself(Rach):
- I think the design of the book is fantastic, with its blend and input from everyone’s creativity
- I enjoyed working within the group and believe despite a few people missing meetings along the way for a number of different reasons we were able to stay focused on achieving a great collaborative book.
- Loved having the opportunity to have an input on many of the decisions made, creating the end papers and contents using Lindys gorgeous border.

-I think a big thanks should go to everyone who put their extra time, effort and knowledge into this book, it was a big help to many and that shows in the book!-

Cheers Guys

Rach

Well done Rach
Great to see everyone's feedback, as a project its been a bit of an eye opener in many ways, i think we have all learnt from the experience, but one that we rose to the challenge and completed beyond our expectations. The group as a whole has worked extremely hard and this along with the extremely high calibre of work will be born out in the final printed book.
Thanks guys for a great effort.

Centre pages

Could you let Liz and Joy know which pages you think look best. The pages are made up of all our work with the writing over the top.
The colours don't have a blue hue in reality this is because the files are compressedfor the screen.

Meeting Wed 4th Mar

Hi everyone
Usual reminder for this weeks meeting tomorrow at 2pm in cb1.3, please refer to Rich's post regarding the files that he needs. As Project Manager, I have been talking to a couple of group members about our presentation at the end of the project and as such, we are looking at three people presenting and breaking the presentation into three sections as follows; I will start the presentation talking about how we have progressed the project as a team, Rachel will then follow, talking about the design aspects and overall look of the book and Richard will sum up, with the technical side. Subsequently, could everyone take a couple of minutes to post any thoughts they have on how the project has gone and indeed any ideas that could have improved the process.
see you tomorrow.

Meeting 25th Feb 09

Hi everyone
Just a reminder for tomorrows meeting. It is important to turn up tomorrow as Richard will be explaining what he needs from everyone on Thursday.
Also give the end paper post below a look as we need to decide what will go into the book fairly quickly.
See you tomorrow

endpaper suggestion

Please all of you have a look at this scan of an endpaper. What do you think?

I like it because it has 'essence of scaryness', and it is suitably rich and luxurious (which they should be).

Mike's first impressions was perhaps it was a little too extravagant and contemporary (I think that's what he said, please don't sue me for Liable Mike if I have misquoted you there). I would appreciate opinions here

If you google 'decorative endpapers' you get a wealth of inspiration. I quite liked this one

I'd quite like a go at printing my own pattern but I'm figuring we haven't got time.....

suggestion for layout, and questions...

Having now posted up our colour drafts and scrolling through I think the order actually works quite well in alphabetical order as shown. What do you all think?
If you all agree it would make the contents/index pages easy, and clean, and also navigating through the book would be simple if we kept to that layout?
At the moment we are all ordered in first names, but if you prefer I bet it would look just as good ordered by surnames too.

Re: index page
Someone suggested that we should add our email addresses to the details so we could be contacted if necessary. If no one has any objection to this I think it is a good idea. Anyone who wishes to opt out please let me know by MONDAY 16th. Also, if you would prefer me to use an alternative email than your pca one then pass on the details. (I already have Ben as yahoo, and Joe as tiscali)

our pages so far

Research

Since we had many ideas for the cover of our book, i thought it would be useful to have examples of each of these for our research folders, you do not have to use it but i thought id share anyways.

The last book would be a good example for the idea of using different characters from our stories within the tree scene (although in this example they are not within a scene....its loosely related)

LOOK i have done research for everyone!!
(an nearly got kicked out of waterstones obtaining it! )

You can see my shoes in the first one. hahahahahahahahaha
